3 Kids, 1 Room – Making A Beautiful Home

bedroom

Our tiny house has been through a lot of changes in the years we’ve lived here, and probably will go through many more. Each room is multi-purpose, each space is carefully thought out. There are a bazillion gorgeous houses out there, and one of my favorite ways to relax is browsing through those lovely Pinterest boards, but truthfully, I want our house to be more than just pretty.

I want it to be a home.

It’s important to me that the decorating of rooms brings more than a new look, but also serves a purpose – whether it be bringing joy, adding organization to our busy lives, or sometimes, just making more room for what is good in this season.

First item on our summer project list – the kids’ shared bedroom! 3 kids, 1 tiny room – no problem. (Pssst – less stuff makes everything easier, darlings. Less is so much more when parenting. haha)Β  If you saw my original “home tour” post, you’ll see that not much has changed in here – but just a few simple updates are giving the room a whole new look!

I switched out the gray curtains for some airy white ones, which let more light in, but still give a cozier feel than the bare window. We picked up the IKEA trundle that goes with this bunk bed set. I also dusted behind the bed. I feel like that deserves its own little sentence of tribute. πŸ˜‰

The shiplap wall. You guys! This peel-and-stick Nuwallpaper from WallPops is fantastic! Hubby literally did the entire project start-to-finish in less than two hours, and it gives the room such a bright, clean feel! It took me way too long to pick one because there are tons of gorgeous options to choose from. I went with the gray shiplap because it made my heart sing.

I also LOVE this one for a nursery or playroom and this one would be fabulous as an accent wall in a bathroom or closet! (I have my eye on it for my coat/kitchen/do everything at once closet. It needs some love. haha)

If you’re a renter, parent of littles, or just love beautifying your home in simple ways, this wallpaper is a huge win. Comes on and off easily – no stress, minimal mess, and a lovely way to dress up a wall!

This room had been the “big kids” room for a while before Lucas officially moved in, so to mark his new “big kid” status, I added a couple items from his current favorite book, “Where The Wild Things Are.” If you know Lucas in real life, you probably just smiled and know exactly how perfect that story is for him.

For all my fellow listmakers out there, here’s the list of items:

  1. curtains: Ikea
  2. mirror: Ikea
  3. bureau: Ikea
  4. Wild Things banner (custom): Tums and Goose
  5. Wild Things print/frame: RusticBranches
  6. book shelves: Ikea
  7. Bedding: old from Target
  8. Bunk bed: Ikea
  9. Wallpaper: WallPops
  10. Wall knobs: CB2

I thought about getting a new lamp. Skipped it. Thought about adding a pretty hanging plant. But I have toddlers who would probably be swinging from it 5 minutes after I hang it up. Thought about a rug. (Still thinking about that. haha)

But I wanted to show you the now because I think it’s important to see seasons, to share seasons, to notice and comment on change, however small. Change can be so good for our hearts.

This room “update” was simple, it took so little time, but has brought them all such joy. They each have space that is just theirs, and even though right now their space is a bed and a couple drawers, they are learning to take pride in caring for their things, to feel that sense of responsibility, respect for their belongings (and others’!).

Hearts grow close together in a tiny home – you learn to find peace, make peace, and work for peace.

Their hearts are young and still learning every day, but as I watch them together in their little room, I am sure that somehow, even in all the craziness of life – we are making a beautiful home.

  1. Looks great! I love how bright it is. Wallpaper has kind of been out of fashion for a while but I’ve noticed it coming back in a little lately, especially for kids rooms and nurseries. I think it’s great for an accent wall!

  2. I love those Ikea bunk beds. my kids shared a room for a while, one baby one toddler that waas hard with the differetn sleeping schedules. but three kids! wow! at least if they are older it becomes more slumber party like πŸ™‚

  3. What a great idea!! I’m getting ready for boy #3 and I’ve been dreading how I’m going to fit 3 kids in 1 room! You did a great job and make it look so open! Oh and that shiplap is to die for, so stinking cute!!
